London Essentials
if you’re a London-town beginner, then you’ve chosen the right London site to explore, as here you have it from two Aussies who’ve been there, done that.
but rather than bang on about us and us alone, there are stacks of Aussies, Kiwis and South Africans (otherwise known as antipodeans - note; a word you’ll hear a lot!) moving to and living in London, and they all have their own stories and experiences to share. so we figured what better people to get the inside goss on the good, the bad and the downright excellent?
inside our London travel guide for beginners
• what to expect about the costs of living in London
• food
• recruitment advice
• cultural advice
• health advice
• summer and winter things to do
• bank account stuff
• and lots, lots more.

Ok, so your London schedule pretty much goes like this. 1. Get off the long long flight
2. Battle through queues to get through Immigration
3. Pick up backpack, suitcase, bag of some description
4. Find a tube / bus / Heathrow Express or friend and make way to accommodation
5. Dump bag in excited anticipation to explore the old London Town
6. Get back on tube and head to Piccadilly Circus – this is where it’s all at!
Piccadilly Circus is a great place to start your London journey. Piccadilly Circus is dead easy to find on the tube map. Hint; just look for the Piccadilly line, it’s the blue one. It’s a great place to start exploring from and it has all the stuff you need to get started in your London life;
Short walk to Oxford Street to pick up a sim card for your mobs.
Boots Chemist - you have to check out a Boots Chemist when you're in London. they have EVERYTHING!
Internet cafes Easyinternet Cafe,
a short walk down Reagent Street to HSBC bank www.hsbc.co.uk.
It’s close to some major sites of London like the West End and Soho but check out our “London Essentials” video for all the great stuff Piccadilly circus has to offer.

Packing Tips for Living in London

London Essentials
when moving your life to or already living in London, just remember that there are shops over there, you can buy stuff and you’re definitely not stranded. but that said, who wants to outlay precious pennies on the essentials as soon as you get there?
so make a list
keep a pen and paper on you in the lead up to departure, and take note of the things you can’t live without. (FYI, there’s no need to suffer through the marmite on toast experience if you don’t want to. vegemite can now be purchased in London.)
what to leave with a trusted soul back home
photocopies of your passport, airline tickets and credit cards (they’re just easier to replace if someone, somewhere has copies of these).
undies vs socks
if space is limited, pack more undies than socks. you can get away with wearing socks more than once before the wash. not undies. ☺
