UK bank accounts

Personal banking, as well as banking will be different here than in the US. You can still do the same type of loans and banking your used to, just get to know the different terms. In the US you can get an accounts receivable loan, in the UK accounts receivable is more commonly known as Credit Control, and most banks have an appropriate Credit Control department, (source - Wikipedia.org)

HSBC UK Bank

the passport account is totally aimed at travellers and can be opened once you’ve landed in London or even before you go, online. if you do apply for the account online make sure you are landing in the UK within 3months of applying for the account otherwise it gets cancelled.
the account is a 12 month long account. it will cost you 6 quid a month to have and you will get a debit card to access your funds.
that’s it. basic account, basic access. after 12months HSBC will upgrade you to a better account that has better fees and better access.

Lloyds TSB UK Bank

Lloyds is another massive bank in London. these guys are really pro Australian and are happy to take an aussie passport to open one of their savings accounts. if you are from America or the EU or anywhere else, our advice would be to go on into a branch and make an appointment to see one of the really helpful banking staff.

Barclays Bank

Barclays is huge in the UK. this is another bank that will open an account for you with minimal hassle.

these guys just need your passport and some sort of proof that you’ll have a job in the near future, verbal proof accepted. so basically if you say to these guys that you’re going to be starting work in  a few weeks then they’ll open you an account pretty much on the spot.

Natwest Bank

Natwest is another of the massive banks in England. at Natwest travelers can set up an account called the step account. it’s a basic account with everything you’ll need to get started. to open an account like this, find your local branch, make an appointment with one of the bank peeps there and take in a bank statement from your home bank account and your passport.
