You'll have to have your National Insurance number with you. Some doctors want to know you are registered to work in the country and that you will be there for an extended period of time - something an NI number will prove. Others won't even care. Better to have it and be safe, then be turned away from the doctors when all you want is some antibiotics.

For road runners, finding routes and getting back into the swing of things is slightly more tricky. To register, you will need a piece of ID which, in most expat cases is a passport. You will also need something that proves your home address . . . and, by now, we all know this is difficult to get right away. So this is where your bank comes in to play. They can provide this or you can wait till you get your first letter from them (usually within a week or so).
