Tips from other Aussies based in London.

The first few months is going to be quite difficult being away from your family and friends back home and you’re going to think the world is against you and hates you. I don’t think anyone will hate you. That would be harsh.
What did you find hard about moving to London? The cost.
A friend of mine once described London actually as the most expensive third world city in the entire world. I think that is about as accurate as you can get.
Do you get black snot when you’re going on the tube?
What about food? Food. Food. Food. Any restaurants?
Be prepared to get fat. Heathrow injection girls. It’s inevitable.
What do you love about it? The energy.
It’s like a vortex of everything around the world all brought into one area.
It is easy to travel everywhere; I mean you can’t beat it really.
London has an amazing variety of musical scenes, bar scenes, clubbing scenes, perverted scenes.
The Soho is called Covered Gardens. Lots of good places. Every pub. I mean lots of good spots.
A beat is only a hop, skip, and jump away if you’re into that kind of beat. Big names play every single week so. It’s not like when you get in Australia and you get to go to Field Day and see them once.
You need to have a good chunk of money, I think, behind you before you actually come over.
If you are a graduate from Uni and you come over here expecting to start your career with a kick ass job getting amazing London experience, don’t expect that.
Study CV, get your CV done, and get your CV out on the job websites before you actually get here.
If you want to get an awesome start to career, do it at home. Get a couple of years of experience in your field under your belt and then come over and then you can earn buck loads.
You will wait longer for things. The systems here are not always necessarily set up to adjust to the people who are here. The health system can be a nightmare.
Because you actually have to be enrolled in your area that you live and sometimes, when I moved here, every doctor that I lived around was a complete fool and I’m not allowed to enroll out of my area so I didn’t have a doctor for three years.
When I got here I wasn’t even sure that I needed to get an IN number.
if you’re a London-town beginner, then you’ve chosen the right London site to explore, as here you have it from two Aussies who’ve been there, done that.
but rather than bang on about us and us alone, there are stacks of Aussies, Kiwis and South Africans (otherwise known as antipodeans - note; a word you’ll hear a lot!) moving to and living in London, and they all have their own stories and experiences to share. so we figured what better people to get the inside goss on the good, the bad and the downright excellent?
