A job and then a House? Or the other way around?
and the answer depends on so much...
When I first arrived in London I was staying in Gerard's Cross, miles away from London - but it was my only option - So I HAD to find a house before I could get a job, it was a matter of not out staying my welcome.
So I settled for Bayswater with some of my mates who were over there at the same time, it was central and it meant where ever I was working I could get to relatively easy. But I paid the price. Bayswater was not cheap..tube access and closeness to W1 costs money!
So after a while I moved to Fulham, cheaper, still accessible by Tube, but not as easy to get to my job.
But My job changed so much - I tempted when I was in London so I never new where I was going to be. After moving to Fulham though I did tell the recruiters that I would only work Central, South or South West - Not North or East, too far on the tube and in winter that sux!
So I guess it really depends, do you have to move out of your short term accommodation quickly? If so, get a cool house and just tailor you job around how far you are prepared to travel. Do you love your career and will go where the work is, therefore you will live where the work is? My friend lived with me in Fulham and worked in Hackney...opposite ends of the tube map - She had to get up at 5:30am to get ready and get to work on time...is that what you want your London experience to be about?
