taking the stress out of living in London

we bring you up-to-date and relevant info about where to live in London, how to get a job, how to catch public transport, where to party, how to save money and where to get help when making the transition.

Packing Tips for Living in London

when moving your life to or already living in London, just remember that there are shops over there, you can buy stuff and you’re definitely not stranded. but that said, who wants to outlay precious pennies on the essentials as soon as you get there?

so make a list

keep a pen and paper on you in the lead up to departure, and take note of the things you can’t live without. (FYI, there’s no need to suffer through the marmite on toast experience if you don’t want to. vegemite can now be purchased in London.)

what to leave with a trusted soul back home

photocopies of your passport, airline tickets and credit cards (they’re just easier to replace if someone, somewhere has copies of these).

undies vs socks

if space is limited, pack more undies than socks. you can get away with wearing socks more than once before the wash. not undies. ☺

Best London Suburbs to live in.

where to live in London? that question is just as, if not, more important then how to get a job in London!

you want to make sure once you're in London, that the suburb you choose to live in can give you everything you expect and more.right?
shops, a local pub, Tube and bus access, a park for the summer, and some cafes, not too much to ask at all.

check out our London Suburbs video guide for a quick overview of a few suburbs you could live in and some maybe you shouldn't.

just a small disclaimer however; our London suburbs guide is totally our point of view, other people may or may not agree with what we say in the videos.  if you have any views on London suburbs to flock to or avoid we want to hear about it. review a london suburb here.

UK Visas, London Visas and Working Holiday Visas

JavaScript is disabled!
To display this content, you need a JavaScript capable browser.

UK immigration has undergone a major facelift. as at November 2008, if you’re from Australia, New Zealand or South Africa and don’t have a UK visa yet, these changes will affect you. (you won’t need a working visa if you’re from the European Union or have a UK passport you, so you’re good to go.)

the changes include names for things – eg the Tier 1 replaces the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme or HSMP – and (major plus) the working holiday visa now allows for two full years of work in the UK (as opposed to the previous 12-month allowance) .

inside our very handy London visa video

a quick intro to visas, a website run through of how to apply online or via the post.

London Transportation : Tubes & Buses

The transportation system in London is pretty amazing. Well compared to Sydney, Australia that is.

Tubes – These things will take you anywhere within Greater London, every 2-5mintues.

Pros
Easy to use and understand
Gives you great access to most places in London
Fun, fast, and a novelty to any newbie in London

Cons
Sometimes breakdown or delayed, or forget to show up
Get really hot in the winter due to heating, overcrowding, and too many massive coats
Get really hot in summer due to lack of air-con
Advice; Take water, a book or i-pod to keep yourself occupied
Stop at midnight
